hi, im new to this so not sure if im in the right section. i have a 190e 2.5-16 "cosworth" from what iv read there supposed to have an electronically controlled hydraullic locking lsd. which automatically varies its lock from 15-100% depending on speed. and an amber triangle flashes in the centre of the speedo when its activated. iv had my car 2 years and iv seen this light flicker a few times, but most of the time on a wet road it will just sit there spinning out one wheel with no amber light on. some times the 2 wheels lock up straight away but still no light, its like it has a mind of its own. i changed the diff during the summer because i had got a spare one with the car and just wanted to see if it was any better, its not. but i just thought its a bit odd there is no wires or sensors going into the diff at all. can anybody help me out.??????????????????

Hello and welcome,,could it be that you have ASD as shown in the link,, if this is intermitent it could be just the OVP relay.
Cars with ASD have a special 9 pin version

IIRC on W124s the ASD only works up to 22 mph. W201s may be different but I doubt it

If it's failing to lock up at speeds below 22 mph you'd need to look at how the system works to fault-find it. It uses a multi-plate clutch to lock the two sides of the diff. IIRC the ASD ECU uses ABS speed sensors to detect relative wheel speed differences and the ECU instructs the ASD to pull the clutch in. It uses oil pressure from the SLS self-levelling system to do this

This would be the hydraulic system for SLS and ASD

thanks, my SLS had been removed before i bought the car as the shocks were weeping. the guy i bought it off was a mercedes tech, but he said the shocks were very expensive to replace so he just put in spax gas shocks. does his mean my asd cant work.?
