Hi can anyone help me I have a mint set of 20 “ amg alloys from an s class and I want to swap them onto my ml but I’m not sure what tyres to fit as the two rear wheels are 1” wider than the front pair which are the same width as the standard wheels on mine
Thanks
Drew

Hello and Welcome,

I think it will mess up the 4x4 system having different sizes front and rear

I'd also be concerned as to whether they're load rated for an ML.

That did cross my mind, lots online about it causing errors with the traction control.

Yes I understand it will mess up the the traction control system that’s why I am am looking for suggestions for the rear tyre sizes so that they are the same diameter once fitted and inflated

Don't ignore the load rating for the rim. If you fit them and they aren't load rated and one fails causing an accident you could be in a whole world of legal and financial pain.

To work it out properly you need to provide some further info. The current set up wheel size, offset, and tyre size. The same goes for the ones you are wanting to fit (albeit you have stated they are 20") width and offset need to be known.

Purely from the current info, you would have 'stretched' tyres on the front of the new rims if you were to keep the tyre width the same.

I can't see you being able to achieve what you are after by using a staggered set up on a 4x4, but without more info you are stabbing in the dark! As previous posts, I would be checking the load rating and wouldn't be surprised if it is compatible, it's not like the S Class is exactly a light car! ;)

Google "tyre size calculator" then put in the standard size tyres you have on the ML (presumably 255/45x19), then you can play tunes with the tyre sizes to get the rolling radius roughly the same.
Might need to consider several sizes either way of the "ideal" because of the pricing differences. tyre companies have their favourites...

Looking on Alloy wheels direct they don't list the AMG IV as suitable.

Every day a school day! Never knew that. Have had the W163 and now the W166 and neither did from the factory, guess it must have been the W164?

W166 should have a 9x20" ET57 fitted with 265/45R20 108Y tyres all round

Mine came with the 21" factory optional extra, but yes I knew the W166 and W163 didn't come with staggered wheels/tyres AFAIK, but now I know the W164 did, which is what the OP has :)

The standard for a W164 in 20" is

8.5 x 20" ET56 fitted with 265/45 R20 108Y

OR

10 x 20" ET46 fitted with 295/40 R20 110Y
