Hi,
are you talking about the heater booster switch by your mirror adjustment knob on the centre console? if so how do you know it's not working? The light on the switch should light up when it is switched OFF

2000 model c220 cdi heater booster

Hi ,yes it's the switch on the centre console and even when we bought the car back in jan 08 it wouldn't fire up.I understand it's an Eberspacher/Webasto type of heater and will only work below a certain temp. There is a small exhaust pipe just behind the O/S/F wheel.
Any help would be apprieciated.
P.S I do realise that when the red light is on ,the heater is off.
Many thanks

Well done Malcolm. I don't know if this helps but I think Meatballs refers to the booster found on diesels only. Had one on the S320cdi (but never used). When I asked about it they said a) it only works when outside temp is below freezing and b) it is there to speed up arrival of heat in the car because diesels heat up more slowly. Haven't noticed a centre console switch on my E220cdi. Maybe they don't have one.

Hi Hawk,, it is optional on my SL and a popular thing to have in Sweden etc.

Its real name is an auxiliary heating and there are special instructions in the handbook to operate these things even by remote control. The main menu for this is in the cluster used with the steering wheel press buttons where the time can be set. I do not think that meatballs has checked the book as there are no controls in the car to operate it

Meatballs has checked the book and there is a switch to operate it on the centre console. There is no remote control for this heater nor does it state in the book that I may switch it on with any other button/switch.
I was after info regarding why it won't work,ie most common problems. In the book it states that it won't operate above 9 C.
Is the only access via the O/S/F wheel arch ?

There must be a timer in the dash, and there should be a remote control for the 202,,as far as I can see you cant just push a button to operate it

Just read the book again.
No timer.
No remote control.
Will only work by using switch on centre console when outside temp is 8 or below or coolant temp is 70 or below.
When red light is on ,heater is off.
when red light is off, heater is on.

You remove the off side wheel arch liner, thats the same for all MB's with this heater,,and you should see the pipes going through the inside of the wing

heater booster

hi
the heater/booster can be switched of at the button you have identified near the gear selector, otherwise it is automatic and is set to come on at 8 degrees celcus. this should be in your manual.

Been To main MB dealers today and they plugged it in ,got faults B1813, B1800 and B1801.Basically no flame produced and flame extinguishers in heating mode. They suggest unplugging power supply and then re-conecting it.I might even try a new glow plug.

Hi everyone - just joined so I am totally new and technically possibly naive with it.
I have s 2000 E220 CDI and it would seem I have a similar problem. Only had the car 6 months (been fine) now that winter is here the car interior takes a lifetime to warm up. I read my handbook and it mentions the Heater Booster. As stated the switch to turn the booster on and off is by the ashtray - when the light is on the booster is off! It should operate at 8 degrees and below automatically. It should provide warm cabin air in about two minutes ( so I have read online). They are no timers, whatever - I have had those in Canada. Apparently CDI engines do not produce lots of extra heat - according to what I have read? Does that sound right?
ANyway does any kind person know how to check out the heater booster - I assume it has a thermostatic sensor somewhere?
I have check my thermostat and it is working fine.

Help it's brass monkey weather.

Hi BOBEF90,it seems to me the most of the advisors on this site insist that this type of heater must have a timer, remote control or both.Your car has the same set up as my c220 cdi - an on/off switch.I got MB to plug in the car and they couldn't really throw any light on the subject and suggested that they remove the unit and send it away to a Webasto specialist.
Instead I got a local mechanic to check the switch was working ok (it was) and then remove the unit for me.He then joined the coolant pipes so that I could still use the car.
Leighway Auto-Electricians of Basildon checked out the heater, they think the circuit board is not working (£280 +vat + labour ).However, they have sourced a secondhand unit for me (about £140).The only trouble is,the new unit has the coolant pump attached to it and my existing pump is located under the bonnetI hope to find out this weekend if it will work or not .
