Hi there,
I have a problem with a 2000 C 220 CDI with 113 K on clock. The problem is as follows.
When you start the car first thing in the morning (cold or warm day) WITHOUT your foot on the throttle the engine will rev up to @ 1000 rpm and stay there for 3 secs then it will drop down and start idling at @ 600 rpm. At these revs the engine is spluttering ( i.e reving up and down slightly) as if it is going to cut out. If you rev tthe engine and take your foot off it will then drop back down to the normal idle speed.
I just left it into the garage there for 2 days and they are still baffled by this.
A number of weeks ago i got the injectors cleaned as they where blowing out carbon on cylinder 3 and 4. The garage that worked on it now put it on the computer and it was saying there was a fault with injector 4. They changed the injector, there are no faults on the computer and the engine is still doing the same thing.
They also changed the air pressure switch but this didnt solve it either. So what is going on?? They have spoken to people round about and no one seems to know what is wrong.
Further to this sometimes when driving the engine will idle at 1100 rpm. I put this down to a sticking throtltle cable and i will grease this up when i get the car back.
Also if you break sharply on a steep hill the car will start to splutter a bit.
We here in Northern ireland are totally confused so now im throwing it out to an international forum!!! Someone out there must have the answer.
Yours in hope
