I'd be surprised if the O2 sensor will clear itself to be honest. If that much oil has gone down the loom it will have gotten into the sensor and messed up the sensitivity.

I thought mine would clear but it didn't so I replaced the sensor with a universal one from Fleabay and have had no problems since. I re-used the old connector after cleaning it up.

I have also managed to clear the majority of the oil from the loom by using some tissue paper as a wick under the ECU plugs. After changing it every couple of days for a few weeks, there's now no oil at those plugs.

Yes good point,,there was an article in the trade press where it said that some used brake cleaner to try and clean the O2 sensor, but that was short lived, the actual measuring part is in the inner section and quite delicate

Yeah, I had a look at mine a couple of times to see if it could be cleaned but everything I read stated that the element was so sensitive that it was likely to be ruined.

I've also heard about the method of holding the revs at about 3k so that the sensor gets nice and hot and any impurities burnt away but I didn't bother trying that. It could also work the other way and the heat fix the impurities to the sensor! The new sensor was only £16 so it was worth a try and it seems to have worked.
