.....seems stiff, ie difficult to move up an down. Could the fact that the steering wheel is not straight be the linked.

If the steering wheel is not straight, then in one mode you could be fighting with the self canceling pawl. but if this was the case then it would be easy in the other direction

Thanks Malcolm, I guess I will straighten the steering wheel up and while it's off investigate the indicator problem further. Is it much of a job to remove the steering wheel.

You have ESP on your car, and really the steering column should be centered, rather than the wheel,unless the wheel was taken off and incorrectly put back

If the steering wheel is out because the steering wheel was not secured in the straight ahead position, then the true center position is lost on the ESP. Just removing the steering wheel will not help the situation.

ESP affects the cars handling and stability in an emergency situation
