2001 C180 key problem

I have a 2001 C180 with the 3button electronic key but it struggles to open the car remotely and when it does eventualy open the key will not turn in the ignition.

Now at 1st I thought it could be batterys so I changed both the key battery and the car battery but to no avail.

Anyone have any suggestion before I take to the local MB dealer?

The central locking and the key in the ignition are 2 completely different circuits,, When used for the remote locking it uses its own batteries, when in the ignition the car powers the remote.

The ignition fault could be the key or the switch, and without a spare key there is no way to work out what the problem is.

Best advice is to buy a new key,, if the ignition switch is the problem,,then it can be bought to match your existing key.

The can transmits both RF for long range and IR for short range locking

Make sure the the end of the key (red lens) is clean
