Hello people!!

I've got clk convertible 2001 w208 when I bought the car I'm pretty sure the roof was fine, BUT I was trying to open the roof without unlocking the hatch from inside and kept pushing the button up down up down:Oops::Oops:, then once I realise what i was doin wrong unlocked the hatch and the roof went down the way it should :D:D, but then it didn't come back up again then i closed the roof manually open the roof manually and closed it again and again and again..... then merc guy had a look did the scan toooooo many errows cleared all the errows, he said one of the limit switch on the roof cover is stuck in the wrong place now the roof just wont open he's tooooo busy working for mercedes customer service so now I come to you lovely people for HELP!!!!

here is what happens when i try to open the roof,
# unlock the hatch all the window do go down
# the rear headrest do go up n down with the head rest button
# the light on the roof button dose flash or blinks
# the roof dose nothing
# now i cant even open the roof manually

I know I know I messed it all up:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

The roof sometimes does need to be opened/ shut manually to reset itself although usually there is an underlying issue. The car needs to go on a star machine to look at the actual values of all the switches in the closed state. If one switch is giving an incorrect or faulty reading the roof will not work.
Wiring also breaks in the hinge for the rear hood flap.

It would need to go on a star machine and that way you can check all the actual values to work out which switch isnt working correctly

well I think it's been on star machine twice each time it costed me £40, I'mm not sure which one is a star machine but the merc tec used merc software which was in black and white with arrows on middle botom of the screen the computer was also linked to sort of middel box between the car and a laptop, so i take it this was a star machine?

Ok Last year.... 16/06/2011....Sunny Morning so I dropped the roof on the way home from a school run.... Got out side the house and the roof wouldn't go up.

Same as you... my indi was to busy to look at it. so i turned to the the Boards and found a realy helpful chap not to far away from me in SE London who was a wealth of Knowledge.

I say together but to be honest it was all him, we found out that it was not a pump that I needed, it was a £9 relay from Mercedes. The same type of relay that operates the fuel pump is used to operate the roof.

We spent 4 minutes stripping the out the boat back panel to get to the relay on the pump and hey Prestol.... the roof goes up and down agan...I think i've ut it on here so have search for my posts. I'm doing this on my mobile otherwese I'd of added the link for you.

The one you describe sounds like a star machine so he should of been able to give you an idea of what switch was at fault

Did they do any further diagnostics or just read the fault codes each time it went on the computer

all they said they will have to go trough one by one to find out which switch it is, the scan only give code which is "B1650 limit switch status unknowwn", well the last tec guy who done it he was going to look over the weekend on is computer how dose the roof work and what should be doing what, but I'm going to swap the relay from the fuel pump with the pump and see if it works.

cheers Shaz

Tried swapping the relays over couldbn't do it as I cant even open the roof manually, to get to it from the boot I'll have to remove the metel sheet behind the cover been advice not to do that as it could do more damage then good, however here is the interesting thing I open the rear screen manually from the boot when I push the roof button down the screen locked itself?????
