2003 SL ashtray replacement

Hi all. Can anyone tell me how to replace the ashtray in my SL? The lid will not stay shut so something has broken off somewhere. Regards, Peter

You will have to remove the top cover, I can talk you through it if you wish

I have found a post you made re this job with a v useful picture. I shall have a go! Probably find Mercedes only sells the ashtray as part of some large sub-assembly costing a fortune....... Best regards, Peter

Once you lift the panel off, the ashtray has to be out you can unplug all the connections and its free.

There is a hair spring and a self latching latch, this could be stuck, out out of line, you should not need any parts
