We have a 2003 SLK 230.

The SRS / BAS light comes on when you apply the footbrake to change from Park to Drive. The cruise control is not working and the brake lights are not working. If I start the engine in N then select Drive without touching the footbrake the light stays off and cruise works until you need to use the footbrake.

I think that the brake light switch has failed, does this make sense? If I am correct does anybody know if swapping the switch is a DIY job or do I need to get the local indy to look at the car?

This will be the brake light switch at fault, as it kills the speed signal (no CC) when faulty

it cost £10 and in stock at all dealers and very easy to fit, just above the brake pedal,, No fault codes to clear

thanks for the advice.

Picked up the new switch at lunchtime (£10.71 with MB club discount, but the error had cleared when I came home from work and thre brake lights are working, so I will swap it at the weekend.

The brake lights will always work in this fault condition, it is the CAN signal that gets disrupted and this takes the speed signal
