Hi All, first post!

I've been to see an E220 CDi Estate that's done 86000 miles on an '04'-plate but the car comes with no service history, which worries me. It's only £7k, but is that cheap enough to highten my concerns? I've never owned a Merc before, so just wondered if anyone could advise me on what I should look out for & check if i decide to purchase it? Or, should I just stay clear?

Thanks.

Hello and welcome, an 04 car needs some care when buying, I would check on what radiator it has, hope fully a Behr and check all of the wheel arches carefully for any blistering (rust)

That's big miles for a 5 year old, even a diesel, and I would be very worried with no service history to support any of those miles!

Personally I would steer well clear, as I would with any car without some form of history.

If you are tempted be sure to do all the hpi checks for outstanding finance, check for stolen recovered, look for signs of accident repair very carefully. I would even be sure to get an RAC or AA mechanical inspection in this case - you could be taking on a potential money pit!

:)

cheers guys. I had pretty much decided to give it a miss. Shame, because it's such a nice looking car, but we all know looks can be deceiving. Even more so after calling the guy and being told even the 86k mileage was unverified. Would be pretty hard driving to do 186k in 5 years, but not impossible!

Just a thought but a MB dealer might be able to trace some history if you give them reg no, it depends on what you plan to do with the car if you intende to keep it get it inspected properly ie not joe the spanner, paperwork is a comfort but many cars have reams of paperwork detailing the many problems they have had and paperwork doesn't replace, only compliments good inspection.

Not really. I used to do over 100,000 per annum for a few years in one particular job I had. Salesmen regularly clock over 100,000.

Don't reckon the miles shown after 5 years is out of the way average 17.5k a year. The 220CDI cars I drive all do around 70/75,000 Motorway miles a year and run so sweet.:)

No service history is the potential killer here though.
