Hi all.

I just wanted to ask how difficult it is to service and replace the Gearbox Oil in my 2004 CL500?

Are there any special tools required, what type of Gearbox Oil and of course how much Gearbox Oil do I need?

Many thanks

Mike

722.6 gearbox , 5 speed ( 5g) . Plenty on YouTube . It’s pretty easy to do with basic tools and a low NM torque wrench .
you obviously need to get the car onto axle stands/ramps to get under it .
There is a dipstick tube in the engine bay to refill
Use Fuchs atf4134 oil you need about 8L , filter and new gasket as well , maybe a set of sump bolts if yours are old .
Dipstick for the 722.6 gearbox , £10 on eBay ?

Thanks so much for your replies.

Is this the same as a W215 CL500 gearbox do you know?

I read somewhere that a special oil measuring tool is required?

I’d guessed 5 by the age of the car , but everyday is a school day .
If it’s 7 , check YouTube for 722.9 gearbox oil change , which is harder to do .
If you have a dipstick tube for the gearbox in the engine bay it’s a 5 speed (if you haven’t it’s a 7)
