I have recently replaced the conductor plate and the gear lever on my 5 speed box. Despite the gearbox now appearing to operate correctly, I have the impression that the car is revving higher than before. But I'm old and forgetful so maybe it's me!

At 60mph it's revving at 3000. Is that what you'd expect in 5th gear?

That sounds too high to me - almost like it's in 3rd or 4th.
Try knocking the car down to fourth manually and see if the RPMs change.

Mmm, Sadly neither knock up or knock down are working. I forgot to mention that. It's something I hardly ever use but did try for exactly the reason you suggest.

~2,000 revs I’d expect at 60 in 5th
