I know, I know...this old chesnut...

- the fob LED flashes but boot stays resolutely shut
- the key blade from the fob turns so far but, even operating the lid push-switch at the same time as turning has no effect. Lots of advice to *really* turn the blade but I'm scared of breaking it.
- the door switch doesn't work. If it's relevant, the LED on that switch DOESN'T illuminate when pressed with ignition on
- fuses 57 and 62 in the rear footwell are OK (checked with a continuity meter)

I've seen videos on YouTube of people removing their license plate, removing the plinth and then the push-switch but...then what? Do I even have to go that far?

I hadn't seen that one, no! Probably because my search terms were 'S500' and/or 'W220'.

That's got to be worth a go. Many thanks!

Have you sprayed a load of lube into the lock ?
Try getting someone to push down on the boot when you operate the door switch it try the key ?

Really drench the keyhole with wd40, and keep wiggling it ;)

Thanks for the responses, everyone.

I should've made sure my edits had gone through before closing my laptop. I had added that I'd done the WD40 thing, as well as the pushing-the-key-up-while-turning thing...

I didn't get time over the weekend to investigate getting the plinth off. I'll hopefully get that done one evening this week.

Meanwhile, if anyone has any further inspiration...

Check for broken wires in the door harness....
