James, Alex and others - welcome and please don't think your enquiries have been ignored.

Sadly, Malcolm (television) is no longer with us, and his archive is currently being sorted ...

As soon as his friend completes this enormous task - there are thousands of files - he might be able to point you guys to a relevant guide.

For this particular problem, I believe there are some videos on YouTube, and repair kits on eBay, consisting basically of a couple of springs and medical pliers, with some instructions on how to replace a broken spring.
