Hi everyone, new to the forum.

Just bought a 2006 CLS350 but have a strange noise from under the bonnet when I pump the break pedal. Sounds like an air compressor charging itself. Any ideas? No issues with the breaks so far. Noise only lasts few seconds and is intermittent.

Thanks
C

The SBC pump has to keep the brake system charged at all times, and it will run as soon as you open a door, as the car knows its going to be driven.

A nice system but expensive when it fails.

Thanks for the replies.

It is normal for the noise to be noticeable?
If it's very noisy, could this be a sign of imminent failure?

Cheers.

Sorry, forgot to ask.

Any basic checks I could make to diagnose possible problems or easy fix?

Thanks

It is normal to be noticeable but not intrusively so. I believe there was a dealer modification available that reduces the noise. Maybe yours hasn't been done?

I have only seen the damper offered for the 211, never the 230 or 219,,but I will look the next time I turn on.

My 219 has the mod fitted, so I'm told.
