Hello all.

I hope some can help me.

I, we, are looking at a new family car.
What I seek is a car that offer great comfort on long trips and at the same time great safety for me and my family.

The S-class does so.
But, I can not by a new one, sadly.

Looking now at a 2007 S320 CDI 4 matic. Close to all the toys there was is on it. It has done 150 000km and 2 owners. All service done at dealer.

But, how is a car like these to own? Expensive, compared to a E-class?
What to, if any, to look out for before buying one?

All help helps me.

Thanks you all for looking.

I run the CL version and my best friend runs a 221 diesel, first year and no faults on mine, my friend had to door handles fail, and that is all.

They are great cars and it should do you just fine, I would not worry about that mileage at all, as long as the price is pro rota to the mileage

As above even per facelift 221's are very good cars

2007 320cdi. Potential weaknesses are the OM642 engine, turbo seals, turbo actuators and in rare cases engine bearings. 722.9 Valvebody can go.

Otherwise, solid as. And a lovely car to drive and no more expensive than a 211 E class to own or fuel

S class
it is a 4 matic so will be a little more fuel hungry than the 2 wheel drive, but id love a right hand drive 4 matic

That is only about 16k miles per year and nothing, any faults would have been sorted out years ago

I used mine for the 1500 mile trip to Sweden and back, I felt as fresh as a daisy when I got there in the early hours of the morning :D

The nice thing about these cars is they are the only car that I know of where the passenger seat can be adjusted from the drivers side

I just push 1 button and the drivers seat controls operate the passenger side, I can use it for the seat heating and cooling as well, along with a massage

I did not know that.

They really are great cars all round, good on fuel and very fast. just a fraction behind the AMG.

I have only been to Norway once when I lived in Sweden. I stood the other side of the boarder in Strömstad :D:D

It is a nice little extra, that. Madame Tode still isn't very confident with the fiddly bits, so I usually end up looking after her seating and 'undercarriage' temperature. ;)

Thank goodness the nice people at Mercedes have thought about, and solved, the knotty problem of undercarriage temperature. ;):D

Yes, the undercarriage temperature can not be forgotten. :)

television, thanks for the information. Have not had a long trip in a S class, but I guess the ride comfort is far far better than any E class. (Not saying the E class offers a bad ride).
But, my use of the car will be longer trips with family, so the extra cargo space and added comfort is what I seek. Also the superb crash safety offerd by MB.

For comfort then they are superb, a large car rides more comfortable than a small one as the extra length spans road imperfections better, so less prone to movement, the weight also helps, what engine will you opt for.

Hello.

The model I am looking at is a 08 S320d 4 matic with the AMG styling.
3l diesel, yeah I know a V8 gives more power, but I do not need that.
