Hi,

I've owned a 2007 S500 for the last five years. Over the last few months, the MP3/Radio has packed up and now only rarely comes on intermittently. It was working fine before. The GPS is fine, so it's just the MP3/Radio unit.

I spoke to the garage who services the car for me and they told me it would cost of the order of £2,000 to replace the entire unit with a new one which is not an option for me.

Are there any good specialist radio repairers out there that are able to repair at a reasonable cost rather than replace the unit ?

Regards,
John

Hello and welcome

Is it the original Mercedes head unit or an aftermarket one?

If your FM stations list dissappear, it's likely the amplifier in the boot that has failed. A few places offer repair services (BBA Reman) etc but most of them say they can fix it then either it does work, or the repair only lasts a few months.

If I wanted to buy a replacement unit, do I have to get an exact match on the part number ?

Looking at my unit it is described as "Model No. BE 7021" with a aprt number of "A 221 870 15 89".

I've also seen some parts for sale on e-Bay where the label says "Model No. BE 7021", but the part number is "A 221 870 17 89".

Is there a website guide on the Internet where I can check as to what part numbers are compatiable and interchangable for when it comes to replacing one of these units ?

As long as its BE 7021 it will work. EPC can tell you, but it's a dealer/mechanic tool only.

Looks clean and apparently there are nine left to sell.

But there's still a risk I could spend £600 odd plus fitting only to discover that it doesn't work.

How much should I expect to have one fitted ?

The Google Translate of the eBay listing also appears to suggest that the price is based of the buyer sending in their old unit as part exchange, which seems a bit odd.
