Hi my 2007 Vito111 van is running down the batteries as its fan seems to be running after the van is switched off.
What might be the problem, is this common ?

I haven't looked to close at my Vito but I'm guessing theres a temp switch on the radiator which controls the fan and thats usually the culprit in a lot of vehicles. If I'm wrong another member will probably point you on the right path JR

Thats great to know. I just bought it and its running the battery down and actually I hadn't realised it was the cooling fan that was running , thought it was the heater fan I was hearing .

Thank you Kev. I took a bit of a chance on the van so hopefully this is one of only a few issues.
I think its clutch release bearing is beginning to grumble a little as well.
its drives pretty well considering its 2007 ad it has 410k kilometers on there ..I have a 2005 Sprinter 313 was well with 600K on there .

Hopefully thats the fault with the fan JR. I only have my Vito about 3 years now. Quite happy with the van but had a few setbacks getting to this point. RWD makes clutch work a bit handier.

Hi Kev ,
I had a closer look at the van this evening The fan noise is coming from the ECU box to the left of the air box .
It seems to keep running after the van is stopped.
That can't be good . I.might put it back out as a post mentioning the ECU fan.( i assume its a cooling fan to keep the cards cool but I've not seen one cooling after the car/ van stops ).it might be best to plug it and see what error codes its throwing up.
I' actually don't have much experience of the vito . Have had loads of merc cars and the sprinter but the vito is a bit of an unknown.

My fan runs on after stopping, cant tell you how long for or how long it should run, Probably until ECU is cool enough at a guess unless its on a set timer . I can hear mine inside behind glove box if thats the same fan? Are you sure thats what draining the battery? Did you check condition of battery?

I have just replaced an ECU blower fan on my van and I am 1/2 way through a 'how to' on it.

The ECU blower fan over-runs after switch off for approx 5-10 mins it appears, so is normal, but it should not be constantly on when ignition is off.
