2008 C220 cdi
Hi all im new to this so please bare with me.
i have a clean 2008 c220 cdi sport that idles well and everything but as soon as you accelerate hard up to 2500rpm you feel a slight power surge and then it backs off for 500rpm and then surges again at 3000rpm. and keeps doing that untill red line..
could someone suggest a problem, could it be injector related?.
any help would be apreciated.
many thanks.

Interesting!! I have a 2005 C220. My gut instinct says turbocharger. However I will stand aside for others to answer.

Because this could be caused by several different things, the first action should be to get the fault codes read, using an MB compliant scanner. Without doing this, you could end up changing parts by guesswork. Expensive pastime!

Hi i have a w204 250cdi 2011 and i think im experiencing the same problem, under hard acceleration i get slight engine cut outs for brief moments,
Have changed the throttle body twice, got the injectors calibrated, gearbox coolant changed and oil changed aswell and nothing has helped...

As of now my car has started to back off the power the more I put the pedal down...
I can accelerate at half throttle and if I put it three quarter down or just before the kick down switch it seems to back off the power ever so slightly, you'd expect more power with more throttle..
I've had the injectors out today and cleaned them up, (they look like they have been out in the last 30k or so) but that hasn't sorted the issue, my next thing is to look at cleaning the turbo actuator or to at least see if it's sticking, the turbo does sound a little whistley but that could just be me being paranoid lol..

Could the ESP be kicking in at 3/4 or full throttle? Try accelarating with ESP off, maybe youll be able to spot a difference

Could be an issue with changeover valve on the turbo.
Or the car could have a bad map on it, thats fighting with the torque managment of the gearbox.

Hi do you mind looking at my post (C250 d auto shift problem), I've posted a video of what seems to be a similar problem to yours? Or maybe its completely different.
Thanks

Hi john ive looked at your video and mine isnt like what you are expearencing mine revs smoothly all way round the rev range its just backs off ever so slightly at a couple of points through the rev range.
it has started to br intermittent now, ive cleaned injectors and still no joy im now going to try clean the exhaust side of the turbo because ive s feeling it could be stucking waste gate or VGT sticking...
yours looks like turbo related too because you are getting intermittent boost by the looks..
try cleaning the turbo (if possible).

It has now started to go into limp mode at high revs when on the motor way if I turn the car off and on again it clears it's self..
I'm now nearly sure it's a dirty turo

Have you checked for boost leaks or read the codes at all? Otherwise it's all a guess.

hi there, sorry for digging this old post, i have an E220 OM646 2008, auto gearbox, and i have the exactly same problem, when accelerating hard, after ~2700-3000 rpm, the car stalls for less then a sec, accelerate again for about 300-400 rpms, stalls again and so on until redline, did you find the problem on your car?
