Hubby purchased my dream car for me and a week later I notice the passenger side external mirror has no seal.

The drivers does, any other car I have seen has this seal (around the glass) but this car?

I called my local dealer said they had no clue about what I was talking about. Said maybe someone tried to thieve the car. Then MBUSA said it is not supposed to have a seal around the glass rather that is what she thought (customer service person)

anyone know if the car is supposed to have the seal on the passenger side as well and if not why not?

You can look and easily see wires near exposed at the connectors?

Seems tacky!

Thank you

I have a suspicion that it may be correct, unless you have another SL to compare it to. Certainly with older cars fitted with self dipping mirrors it's only the dipping (driver's side) one which appears to have a black trim around the glass portion of the mirror. I assume that this is what you are asking about.

If that is the answer then you could always look at fitting a RHD spec mirror to you passenger side.

That car looks nice, the reason why there is no seal is that it is not a dimming mirror, where as the drivers one is. Anything else that you are not sure about just ask and welcome to the forum

If you look at almost any modern Mercedes with the heated and dipping mirrors, you will find that only the drivers side mirror has a plastic/rubber "seal" around the edge.

Lovely car, apart from the mirror, how are you liking it so far?

Thank you all for the replies

I believe you are all right no black seal on the pass side.

I wonder why not a mock seal?

We had several beemers and those have the seals. At any rate I suppose in their infinite wisdom... so long as it is supposed to be that way.

Lets see how do I like driving it.

The drive home from the dealer was scary could not believe it was mine was afraid to damage someone else's car.

Generally it is the most comfortable car I have ever driven. It has the var clearance so I get to tease that it is a 4x4 in disguise. The car is smooth and powerful yet holds a boastable mileage. I get generally 23 MPG with agv speed at about 35-40. This is in comfort and letting auto manage the shifting.

Thanks again
