Yea buddy it’s a nice example

Low number of owners also means its unlikely to have been neglected and abused by owners who shift stuff on quickly, therefore the previous owners are likely to have been happy enough to open their wallets upto routine up keeping and drive it accordingly as well.

That would definitely make my short-list if I was looking for one.

Just spoke with the dealer. The car belongd to a 80 year old man who was the second owner he purchased a new shape cls so they took this as part ex. Dealer told me car has 2 merc stamps then the rest is Inde for servicing the guy even wrote down when the car has a light bulb change and this car was in probably better condition than his new one so finger crossed it’s looking good I’m going to see the car on Saturday

I'd not be deterred by non franchised dealer history (mainly as I don't rate dealers for quality or, service guidelines in general). A mechanic is only as good as their skill, experience, pride and ethics rather than the overall they wear or the building they work in. Sounds like it will be fine and should perform well on a test drive.

Fwiw, mine had servicing at 5,000 miles annually from new (family owned). Mixture of franchised MB dealer and an MB Independent specialist. I was not impressed with the timelines of air/fuel filters (and more) from memory, listed and stamped in the book/receipts. Upon removal they were in a very sorry state in my eyes and modern schedules are just an excuse to prematurely cause adverse running and wear problems in cars.

A few have mentioned the turbo inlet seal and crank ventilation. Its well worth popping the plastic engine cover and just taking a look to see if anything looks suspect, so that you can assess and plan accordingly. My thread shows pictures of what it looks like if it needs to be done and the revised parts numbers as applicable. https://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/...bo-have-i-got-all-i-need.173424/#post-1692998

An independent service history could well be a plus!

slk rust bucket!
I bought my cls 4 years ago, it's the petrol cgi. lovely cars, I bought it from my wifes uncle who had it
since new so perfect history. All i've had to do other than servicing was the rocker cover gaskets were
leaking slightly. 125,000 miles and runs like new!
The missus likes a light interior and I prefer it darker so a compromise was reached!
I replaced the headlights with HID, diy job and MUCH better than stock!
I also had the head unit replaced with an android, handsfree and satnav etc!

Check the insurance! It can be expensive!

When I got mine, my insurance wanted £1350! Even with matched full NCB etc.

I raised my eye brows and said that's more than my modified T5's, R' and Supra TT combined yet, the CLS is not a patch on those performance and its standard. They wouldn't budge so I said, fair enough, went online (gocompare), got some screen shots for like-for-like cover, quotes coming in at £250 updwards and agreed with my current company on a price of £4xx? quid.

Just don't accept the first quote you get or get pushed around.

I've no idea why mine is so expensive. My Focus 1.8 Diesel estate was £220 and my 218 is well north of double that
Annoyingly the CLS has every possible safety aid so I fail to understand the loading o_O

Because the cost of parts is higher and it’s more desirable.

Not sure if the typical used car warranty covers it. Usually they are not worth it and cover stuff like a brake pad falling out of the callipers.

From memory the crankcase pipe and valve is £95. Turbo inlet seal about £10. No more than an hours labour if you don’t diy. (Lots of videos on YouTube)

Bizarrely when I was in the market for a 219 I found the diesel variant was more expensive to the 55 AMG, no matter where I looked.

They are a beautiful classic design, which has aged very well imo, and although I now have the 218, I prefer the lines on the 219.

My old 55......(a few cosmetic mods, not for everyone ;)) IMG_0208.jpeg

I'm glad to hear the CLS55 is cheaper to insure, +1 for adding it or an E55K to a collection.

I thought the prices were in line with risk and how many claims get made against a certain make/model. If the CLS is quite a bit rarer on the roads, then things like replacement body parts will be commanding premiums. Additionally, if the CLS320 cdi is the most popular, then no doubt, most claims would be made against this model.....

Personally I think we need a reform and risk should be based on a driver rather than the car. Someone who drives like an idiot is a risk no matter what they drive compared to someone who is risk adverse, refuses to rage, drives sensibly will be less of risk regardless what they drive.

Anyway back to the OP... the weekend is nearly here.... I hope your visit on the weekend turns out to be worthwhile.
