Hi guys,

Iv got a 2010 E350. Basically Iv had a cluster of problems in the past month I have changed turbo actuator motor, air inlet shutoff motor and a full service. After a week or so my car had been chugging at revs between 10-15mph. Problem got worse and worse and then a fault code came up for the egr valve (P0404). I took out the egr and cleaned it (it wasn’t that dirty) and put it back in place. The car seemed to go fine for a few days and just yesterday driving home it started doing it again then the car got very violent with reving and was squealing from the engine bay. The chugging stopped the car completely and I opened the hood and reved the car to find the egr was squealing. I simply unplugged the egr valve and the car drove fine (apart from the fact it was in limp mode). Is this just an easy egr swap replacement or could I be looking at another issue? Feel like I’m just getting nowhere with this car the past month or so and is putting a bad taste in my mouth. With covid a indie mechanic can’t see the car for 3 months so it will be a DIY job.

Thanks for taking the time to read

hope to hear some replies soon

thanks

That’s what I’m thinking, simply replacement of the EGR should solve the problem then?

Wonder is it a common problem or should I just buy a new part instead of used.

Such a build up of soot/sludge in the inlet manifold nowadays which doesn’t help. I’d go the new part route as the car is 11 years old unless you have the ability to read/test the EGR values

Speaking with an Indy mechanic taking the car in 3 weeks. Getting the egr blocked off. I would be correct saying it won’t matter if the manifold is clogged now also?

Can't just block the egr. You will get limp mode. You will need some electronic trickery to allow it. If your manifold has swirl flaps, they will be badly affected by buildup of junk. Otherwise, the junk just blocks airflow to an extent which can effect performance. Until you see the amount of filth that builds up in there over 100K, you won't believe it.

Got a good electrical mechanic near me, he reroutes the brain on the car to bypass the egr valve. Seems confident that it will fix my issue. Thanks for the reply
