2012 C207 E Class Coupe E220 CDI - Smoke from Exhaust and Knocking Engine

have a 2012 E220cdi E Class Coupe and This Week I was Driving Down the Motorway everything was Fine Next Minute there is knocking Noise Under the Bonnet, EML and loads of Smoke Coming Out the Exhaust, Got it into a Layby and Turned it off and when I tried to start it back up its just Cranking and getting Nothing, Got it Recovered to Garage just before Close, He has just had a Quick Look and it's Coming Up Low fuel pressure on startup.

Heard back from the Mechanic Today and He said the Fuel pumps under the Rear Seats are Working Fine and pushing the Fuel Forward and there is Fuel getting to the Fuel Filter but there is No Fuel getting to the Injectors in order to do a Leak Off

Any Ideas Please ???

Find another mechanic /garage… you had an eml light … have you been told the code or reason for it… the mechanic wants to do a leak off but no fuel to injectors … he’s a mechanic he should be able to find out why no fuel to injectors …

Sorry to be blunt, your car is at a mechanic and you are posting for advice or are you just anxious.

although the fuel pump is working is it delivering the right pressure.

based on what you said the fuel filter is the culprit or the lines to/from.

TBF doesn’t add up and the mechanic doesn’t seem too clued up. why can’t he take injectors off and get them bench tested?

Is it a merc specialist or a.n other.

He ain't really had time to look properly as it got recovered to his just before Close, Was hoping You fine People could help along

I am More Worried as to what it is? is The Engine Knackered? How much will it cost etc etc

As stated above, It didn't get much of a Look as was brought in last minute

Odd that the mechanic has half looked and gave a half baked answer.

Thankyou for all Your Help this Far, As Others have Mentioned I will see how far he gets with it then Possibly take it a Mercedes Specialist to be Fully Diagnosed/Repaired

My gut feel is a bad injector or high pressure pump particularly if the smoke was grey/white in colour.

I am however only guessing.
