I 2005 BMW E60 530d. 2012 Mercedes e class estate.
Recently purchased 2012 e class 2.2 diesel estate. I find the headlights on unlit roads a bit disappointing. Full beam is ok. Lenses are pristine.

Any suggestions please?

Osram Nightbreaker Laser are the go to bulbs to improve lighting. Buy from a reputable supplier as there are fakes around. Osram have a site to check what you have bought is legit

Can I take it that the H7 night breaker laser is the correct replacement for my e class?

I have a 2011 E350CDI 212, my headlights are possibly the best headlight I have ever had.
I assume you lights are Xenons?

I will check tomorrow, but I think that was the standard fitting. Did my first nightime unlit road trip a few days ago and it was so bad I thought I was on sidelights only.

Used to have a C63...
If they are xenon, then they're conceivably 13+ yrs old, and they do deteriorate over time.

As above, you can get uprated bulbs, but even OEM replacements will likely yield an improvement.

A 2010 E350 I had was great for headlights. They were factory xenon and worked well doing 1000 miles a week day, midnight, dark back roads etc. They had that stupid high beam bollox which I never use and were good by all accounts.

The 2007 CLS with halogens on the other hand… no halogen bulb made any difference. LEDs were better but far from great and what a total ball aches they are. Who ever designed that light system with halogen deserves to be punished using the brazen bull! Fvck knows how it passed any legislation and the R&D must have been simply the engineers sucking each other off than actually working. Yet I still have cars with 20yr old glass lenses, original reflectors and standard h7 bulbs and they work great!

So if it’s on xenon’s you have a problem, if it’s on halogens, I’d not be surprised if it’s a design flaw that they haven’t fixed.

Sounds like the same team that designed the projector/halogen headlights on my 07 R Class. Having gone from HiDs in my previous Omega, the lights on my R Class were sh1te!

Many thanks for all you suggestions. Appears the standard fit for this year and model were halogen, I have the build sheet and there is no mention of xenon, so I will replace with the Osram Night Breaker and see if that works. I will get my indy to replace them as I foresee bleeding knuckles and hassle getting to the passenger side or removing the inner wheel guard.

Cheers.

Maybe your front or rear level sensor has failed , dropping the headlight range to just in front of the car ? Get the Indy to check and lube them if they are not broken .

Yep, absolutely agree I’ve never driven any car with better lights than the intelligent set-up on the S212 even the E53 I’ve just bought with LED set-up isn’t better in fact I’m not sure it’s quite as good - early days I know but time will tell
