Hello everyone,
Apologies if this an old 'chestnut' here, but.......
As far as I can remember, when pressing the 'wash button', the wipers on my
previous Mercedes, moved, after the washers had sprayed the screen.
This is not the case on my current car. Is this usual....and if not, what is the remedy?
I've just had a new windscreen fitted and I'm quite keen on keeping it as blemish free as possible.

Thanks in advance.

There is a one way valve in the line to jets that fails. AFAIK it's part of the line , but a universal one in series will solve it.

Thanks Alexander, that's interesting.
So the fluid is draining back down the line, and the delay is the time it takes for the fluid to be pushed back up.
I would hope to fix it myself....I hope the 'parts department' know what I'm talking about when I request a, "washer line one way (non-return) valve". :) 1725868317335.png

Can I ask, has anyone here done this, is it a simple job?

I'd image the hardest part of the job is finding it. A kettle of hot water to soften the pipes will help both removing & fitting it.

Well, that's interesting!
I just called my nearest Mercedes Parts Dept...guess what?
It's not listed as a separate little'widget', Mercedes want you to buy the whole pipe.....for £85!!!
I think I'll find another remedy.
Any thoughts anyone?

That would explain why there is a delay before my washers start spraying. They used to spray the moment I touched the button.

I think what @alexanderfoti meant was to cut the pipe and add a different one way valve. At least that's how I understood it.

I'm guessing access would be behind the front wheel arch liner, but if anyone knows of an easier way to get to the pipe it would be great!

Yes, thanks Alexander, I have seen these on fleabay.
If the Mercedes replacement is only available as one piece, I'm thinking
of cutting out the blocked valve and fitting something like you have shown.
I'm hoping the valve is accessible close to the wiper area.
What d'you think?

easily accesible in the wing area near the hinge :)
Thanks again Alexander,
Please excuse my thickness , but which hinge?
About to go and have a look, do you mean the bonnet hinge?

Follow the washer pipe and all will reveal itself.

Hi Alexander,
Just to let you know that, the valve you showed is slightly too small for my 2013 w204....plenty of washer fluid...everywhere, sadly none on the 'screen! Haha!:)
I bought the next size up 5mm, again a small plastic item, for me, still not 'snug' enough (if it slides in easily, it will slide out just as easily) seems to work ok though, I secured it with some Gorilla Tape (brilliant stuff).
I measured the ID of my hose pipe with a 6mm drill-bit and will buy a metal 6mm valve I've found online. I'll probably wire the rubber hose onto the new valve. 'Belt and braces', I know but.....

Thanks for the update. Luckily I hadn't got around to buying one yet.

Emily's previous car, a FIAT Seicento, had the problem whereby the screen wash was just about reaching the screen. I messed about with the screen wash pump, replaced it with an eBay special, put a used OE pump in ..... FIAT only sold the pump complete with the bottle at £120. Still no joy.
It turned out that the in-line none return valve had rotted causing a restriction. Replaced it with a plain joining piece & sorted!
