Hello to all,

Just bought a 2014 W212 e class with 18" low profile tyres which i would like to change to regular tyres. I believe this is possible if i reduce wheel siz to 17" or 16". Can anyone confirm this is the case or what other complications are involved. Secondly if this can be done does anyone have a set of used wheels and tyres of the right size.
Many thanks for any advice.

Hello and welcome,

16" might be a bit too small to fit over your calipers - depends a bit on if you have "AMG-Line or Sport" optional brake calipers - look inside the fuel filler and you'll probably see some 17" tyre sizes. As long as you go with one of those you'll be fine insurance wise.

Check out "my-tyres" website - you can choose wheels and tyres (including fitting kits) and see what they'd look like.

Yes, as above you need to be careful if your vehicle is a Sport model with the bigger 18in wheels and 4 pot calipers - as far as I know the Avantgarde model was equipped with 17in wheels and 2 pot calipers so it might be too much of a squeeze

Thank guys for your replies.
Vehicle is E class 2014 220 cdi AMG sport with 18" wheels and low profiles which I find to hard a ride on West Yorkshires despicable roads. Hope 17" with 245/45R17 tyres as listed in fuel flap will be OK

That’s the size I had on my E320 and they were pretty good. I’d see if you can try one first to see if it will fit over your callipers

I have a 212 E350CDI on 18" summer wheels, & 17" winter wheels. I much prefer the 17" wheels with the 245/45 tyres.
Just check you dont have wider wheels on the back!

Your car will be fitted with

Front 8.5Jx18 ET48 fitted with 245/40R18 97Y XL
Rear 9Jx18 ET54 fitted with 265/35R18 97Y XL

so on 17"

Front 8.5Jx17 ET48 fitted with 245/45R17 95Y XL
Rear 9Jx17 ET54 fitted with 265/40R17 95Y XL

OR

8.5Jx17 ET48 fitted with 245/45R17 95Y all round but the rear wheels will sit a long way inside the arch

HiJ Bell,
Thanks for that.
You are right with the 18" sizes which I did not realize was a problem.
Due to your info I will change the 17" rears to 265/40R and have 245/45 on the front.
Great info thank you

Hi Guys,
Seems my e class is a E220 cdi AMG sport on 18inch low profile tyres and suspension lowered by 15mm. My research indicates that I have to live with that set up according to tyre specialists as 17inch wheels will still have low profile tyres and 16inch wheels will probably not fit over the brake calipers.
Does anyone out there no anything differently

Thanks for any more info

there are not many, if any, cars around anymore with none ''low profile'' tyres ..... just that some are more or less low profile than others. Even my Cortina in the day had ''low profile'' tyres
