Hi guys I’m currently looking to purchase one of these and I have a few questions.

1) is the 300CDI a 6pot? I ask because, the guy selling it was unsure, but he did mention it’s a 2.2 which doesn’t make sense.

2) Are these reliable? I understand it’s the first generation of Mercedes Diesel Hybrid engines apparently.

Just sold my ‘61 ML350 Grand edition and looking to purchase a saloon.

If it's a hybrid then it is a 4 pot and I'd not just walk away I'd run...;)

Get a W213 with the 220d engine from late 2016 - better fuel economy and none of that hybrid nonsense

If you get the right year one (2016) it's only £20 VED :)

Great advice, my son has one and he’s going to keep it a longer than he intended it’s that good. He usually chops them in every 2/3 years but not this one. As said I wouldn’t go anywhere near the 300 hybrid

300 hybrid was a complete Frankenstein monster unfortunately - tested...... on customers
Just don’t
Advice from the guys is spot on - 213 4 pot is perfectly good, 6 pot even nicer (350)

Much, much nicer :)
Depends really - OP was looking at an E300 - presumably for economy - so an E350 isn't the "E" to go for in that instance.

E300 - £20 VED - 67.3mpg combined* - 0-60 7.5s - 150 mph
E220d - £20 VED - 72.4mpg combined* - 0-60 7.3s - 149 mph
E350d - £160 VED - 51.4mpg combined* - 0-60 5.9 - 155 mph

So whilst the E350 is great car and faster 0-60 and top it isn't an equivalent to the E300
The E220d on the other hand is a much better car in all respects to the E300

*unlikely to meet these manufacturers figures but listed so can compare against the 3 cars

A genuine 50mpg is achievable with the 220d and can be bettered with a light foot. The 2016/17 OM654 is the best of the lot with £20 RFL

I used to regularly achieve 83mpg on my runs from Hereford to Wakefield :D

E300/W212/2014/2L Diesel Hybrid (Also a Honda CBR1000RA Fireblade)
I have the 2014 E300 2.2L diesel hybrid with the AMG trim kit (not real AMG).
I like it but I wouldn't recommend it.
There are too many big bills in my possible future.

Yes I know - and I’ve never actually driven a 220 so I can’t really comment can I - but I did love my 350 :)

In the 2016 E Class, did the OM654 engine replace the OM651 one as standard? And now much better engine has it proved to be?

Too early to say in the long term reliability department but performance wise it performs very well with the 9 speed box in both power and economy. What I particularly like about the W213 chassis is that MB have managed to improve the ride dramatically even with 20in wheels

Modified chassis...that's a big change, so it's more than just cosmetic. By the time I'm ready to change, will be well worth considering a 2013 car, and it should have well proved itself by then, but so far sounds very encouraging.
