Just received a call from MB Tonbridge to say my service (at 50K) has been completed but that they haven't done the transmission fluid and filter change they had earlier flagged was necessary and is indicated in my service schedule. They say this engine/transmission combination does not require a change until 77.5K. My old W210 had several transmission fluid changes and the box and the diff did not last and so I specifically wanted this fluid change particularly as I'm paying for a service pack.

Could anyone advise if they think I am being ripped here cos I'll take it back if so.
Combination is as follows
Engine #: 642852 41 686636
Variant: A 642 010 95 08
Transmission #: 725001 00 033670

Thank you

I think they are right buddy about the 70k ish , I thought it was also an and/or 5 years as well , hopefully someone can confirm .
There is an MB service portal that tells you what is due , ESS or something I’ll have a look

The 7 Speed + gearbox fluid change should be at 77.5k miles or 5 years whichever comes first, the 5 years bit may be a sticking point unless you can find the actual MB servicing schedule for your car, regardless If you intend to keep the car it’s better to have it done

Thanks Malcolm - mines the 9-speed and the link generates a mileage/age/specification specific schedule and it says 77,500 for my box. Really useful to make sure MB don't skip stuff though. It's an expensive bit of work and I've had 2 independent quotes of £300 and £290 which is why I thought I had paid for this in my service pack. It's costing me £432/annum for not much more than fluid and filter changes, which seems like a lot. MB did this A7 service in around 1 - 1.5 hours, maybe a little more but that included their video check. In this case it was pretty useful as it picked up inside edge of one tyre down to the cord so needs changing

Yes it's pretty good and very different to the 5-speed W210 we had, I just want to make sure it lasts.

What I was getting at before was is the gearbox oil change schedule 77k OR 5 years which makes yours due now ?

It's more complex than that - if you use the ESS link you have to complete age from registration, mileage and the specific engine and gearbox and for mine it specifies only the milage at which the gearbox service is due, in this case 77,500 and not a time interval. I would imagine that if I entered a higher mileage figure, say 65 or 70,000 instead of 50,750 it may come up with a different schedule but I get the impression it is the specific box and mileage in my case and not age. Pity because I'd rather change it and £300 is a lot - but cheaper than a new box. I've tried to find out more about the reliability of this 9-speed box which seems to be pretty good but if anyone has any other info I would be grateful. MB glibly said that I'd probably be replacing the car before the gearbox work was due, but I want to run this for longer than that. Thanks again Wighty

The new fully synthetic g/b fluids don’t degenerate so that isn’t an issue but the gearbox does wear and the sludge generated can cause issues so better to have if flushed and certainly worthwhile at 50k miles

When I had the first fluid change on the W210 box it was burnt and I had run it from almost new at 7k so there was nobody but me to blame. The W212 box is just a more complex and expensive animal and if I'm going to have a remap it will push it even more. Will do Malcolm, thanks
