202 headlight flasher problem

hi all,can any one shed light [no pun intended]on a problem im having with my 1994 202 diesel headlight flasher,it started working intermittantly a few days ago, then yesterday as i checked it in my garage it came on then went dim and has not worked since,as i believe the flasher to be a very important safety aid i would like to sort this asap,is there a relay that could be at fault,or if not,and i remove the switch would i be able to get inside it to clean contacts,all help gratefully recieved,thanx for your time.stan.

Hi, BigAsotonUk (borrowing missyd's PC).
As Malcolm says first things first try the fuses, then I would be inclined to see if you can clean the switch contacts as this has been a common fault on this type of car.

I believe it is a steering wheel off job unless you can use an aerosol switch cleaner through the moving arm

hi malcolm,stripped the wheel off,squirted some brake and clutch cleaner into the base of the stalk and hey presto after a couple of goes the flasher started working again,thank you all for the suggestions,many thanks,stan.

hi malcom.had same problem with my w202 d 1995.i found your post and squirted one short blast of wd 40 intothe hole around the flasher stalk, and hey presto it worked straight away welldone .
