I have an E320 (ch.no:210 265 2A ******) that has been laid up a while.
Car had a flat battery so have charged it up.
The fault that the car has which it didn't have before it was parked up is that the 'keyless' ignition no longer works, nor does the central locking (not even with the metal back up key). The ign sometimes works with the chauffers key & the car starts & runs fine with no warning lamps etc, but this is probably only 3 or 4 times in ten.
My thoughts are that I may have to replace the battery as it is a bit lazy, but are these systems that sensitive to battery voltage.Or is this fault in some way tied in with the central locking fault?
I need to sort this as the car is sold to a local painter on the condition that it has an MOT.

You do need to be sure that you have the full 12 volts when starting or starting blips as they are called can take place.

If standing too long, the keyless go could lose contact with the control unit and this may need to be re set.

The locking is done by the PSE pump and this should be OK,,it could all be a little lazy,,but without a good 12 volt battery its impossible to say what is going on

The problem is not the starting, but getting the key to turn.
What is the proceedure for programming these keys?
Thanks.

The only known way to get a key to turn (plastic one) is to leave it in the ignition switch for up to 90 mins,,this does not always work,,but you can try it.

Thanks- I'll try that with a new battery too.
I don't want to spend too much on it as the car was bought with a duff gearbox.Pressure of work means that it has sat around too long & is just about going to cover it's costs.
