I've had to give up trying to get it out because I've got sore fingers. OUCH.

According to WIS I should push down and towards the rear, then lift up.

The pushing down and to the rear loosens it but then I try and lift it and it won't budge!

Am I missing a step, can anyone guide me please. I need to look at fixing a broken multichanger.

It's the motorised access door that won't open so I need to get the whole unit out.

The instructions above are to get the whole unit out. You dont need to open the door.

The instructions to remove the changer tell you you remove the ashtray and links you to the ashtray removal instructions which then tell you to remove the gear selector cover (have I confused things calling it centre console).

I dont know what instructions your following but if you follow the guide on mercupgrades.com you will remove the whole compartment with the cd changer that is under the headunit. That is all you can do anyway as the drawer wont work so you cant remove just the cd changer.

You're both talking at cross purposes...the plate around the gearstick that you're trying to remove can be a pain and there was no way mine would come out by just pulling.

What you need to do is remove the leather gator around the stick, pull from the side and lever out. Then you will see the two tabs at the front of the hole which are stopping the plate coming out. Press these in with a screwdriver or similar while pulling up and it should come out, you do need to push them quite hard.

Then the ashtray will pop out and you can remove the changer.
