Hi all

I have been attracted by this secondhand E class on a fairly low mileage and wondered what I should be looking out for?

Any advice or tips would be greatly welcomed, thanks in advance.

Hi Tony,

I am sure others will comment but you are looking at a robust and well proven model. Low mileage should promise mechanical integrity, 2005 is well after the rust problems of earlier cars, and the 220 CDI engine is reliable and thrifty.

If it looks good and drives well, the usual caveats about correct servicing and no collision damage apply. Points to haggle on might be miles until next service is due and how long until the tyres need to be replaced, but other than these thoughts, it ought to be a straightforward purchase of a car with a lot of life ahead of it.

If you can stretch to the facelift (2006?) the 220cdi gets 170hp instead of 150hp and makes quite a lot of difference. Worth trying.

tried the 05 and then went for a drive in a 2006, you can tell the difference with that extra 20bhp!
By the time I got back to the 05, it had been sold, well there's always another day...

Powerwise its realy equivelent to a 270cdi. A facelifted E220cdi is a splendid way to get about. 2005 onwards are the best cars
