220E fuel injection problem

Hallo all
I have just purchased a 1993 22E.

The engine appears to be running very rich with a small quantity of black smoke from the exhaust on hard acceleration.

Perhaps associated with this, at idle the revs rise and fall without the throttle being depressed.

Could anyone help on diagnosing and fixing this before I spend large sums of money going to a dealership?

Also can anyone give me an idea of what kind of economy can be expected from this car?

As far as idle revs. concerned, could be dirty throttle body causing butterfly valve to stick slightly open.

E220 injection problem

Most E Class fuelling problems seem to involve the airflow meter so the best starting point would be to clean the AFM. Then get the fault codes read & reset by an indie. Then test it again and see where you're at
