Good evening, just waiting for the curry to cook, keema and peas tonight.

I need to replace the poly belt and the tensioner damper which is loose and noisy. Can anyone advise on how to relieve the tension on the belt prior to removal and how to retension the new belt? Also how does the tensioner assembly work, spring or adjustable offset similar to alternator movement on other cars?

The arrangement is shown here (kindly supplied by Television)

Many thanks in advance, got to make the popadums now.

Graham.

The tensioner is spring loaded, use a long ring spanner on the centre nut, no.23 in your diagram, and lever in an anticlockwise direction to relieve the tension and allow you to remove the belt; take note of the belt routing first as it is not so obvious once you have the belt off.

Thank you both very much, that's just what I needed!
What a great forum this is.
I hope in time I can put something back in, I am only into the second month of my first Merc.
Best regards, Graham.
