hi. bought my 1992 230e last august with less than 100k on the clock, had to have a bit of work done ie new rad, new distributor, leads etc etc and have loved it up to now. wont start with out pressing the throttle (never had to before) and now cutting out at junctions, roundabouts and failing to tick over, but all these problems are now and again. does anyone have any ideas? my normal mechanic is flumaxed. Ive adopted a two feet driving approach but the girlfriend refuses to drive it. and to add to all this my other cars are Italian!!!

Perhaps it's heard about italian car behaviour and decided to follow suit?

Seriously if the engine runs fine when your foot is on the accelerator, but stalls when it's not then it sounds as if the throttle linkages and/or sensor have shifted and need adjustment.

I'll admit that I don't know much about this model - no doubt our more knowledgeable members will post later.

HI
I had this issue, and I managed to resove it by adjusting the screw on a component on the back of the air intake if the injectors. I can't remember the name of the unit and it is very fiddley.
sorry I can be more precise but it's a long time since I did work on this car.
It somehow controls the fuel into the injectors. I will dig some stuff up and see what I can find for you.
PLease note that this was a last resort and I would check all other options first!
