I have a 1991 230te with a 102 engine which has suffered a head gasket failure. I’ve taken the head off and it’s currently being skimmed. I’ve read a post that refers to a need in adjusting the timing chain tensioner correctly. How is that done? Also what torque are the cylinder head bolts tightened too? I only have a Haynes book and I’ve found that sometimes the information is not quite right

Many thanks in advance.

Barrie.

Your Mercedes
2002 SL500, 216 CL500, all fully loaded
Before you insert the chain tensioner, you must close it to the min position, if you do not the chances are that you will break the chain or a cam wheel off, that is all there is to it.

Head bolts.

tighten in order 1st stage 55nm, 2nd stage angle 90º, 3rd stage 90º

The hexagon socket bolts = 29nm
