Can anyone help I have a 230CE 1985 and if I take a deep right turn I get a loud noise from the back left wheel area I have been told it may be the rear axle I would appreciate any thoughts before I fork out £500.
cheers

Hi Mark,

Before forking out the money. Double check the rear axle shafts CV joint. Usually you can actually see the marks in the casing caused by the ball bearings rolling where they shouldn't. Also make  sure the wheel bearings are in good order & no excessive play. You could remove the back plate of the diff and have a look. If the noise is that bad. There should be some evidence of debris.

Regards
Andy @www.mercedesservicing.com

PS, Take a trip to the midlands & lets have a look. Good luck!

Cheers Andy
I'll have a go at the weekend and see what I can see.

Had very similar noise.  After some investigation it was the mud-flap hanging too low and bouncing on the road.
This sounded for all the world like a badly worn C.V. joint
