230E manual diff noise - What is this?

Hi Gentlemen
I have a 92 230E manual with 66000km (41000 miles).
This vehicle was serviced my M/Benz all its life. I bought it about 2 months ago. The car is like new but I can hear a whining sound from the differential at about 45 to 55 mph when the engine is just not delivering power but not in overrun yet. As soon as power is applied or if you go into overrun, there is no whine. Can the diff be adjusted or will I have to live with this?

One ecconomic solution that often works is to drain a little oil out of the differential and top it up with a product like Molyslip.   Worked for me.
