230k ok or 320?

I'm looking at a CLK....and toying between the 230K and 320.
I'm also a huge Toyota fan and despite working for Mercedes (albeit in the commerical vehicle sector in Milton Keynes) I don't know much about Merc cars.

I have a MR2 mk2 N/A at the moment....and I am considering an MR2 turbo (which is seriously quick if you get a rev 3 one) or a CLK.
Two contrasts I know......but both have their Pro's and Con's.
I love the MR2 build quality, reliability, looks and performance....but thats also said of the CLK's albeit less fast....but more refined.

The 230k models can suffer the supercharger failure.....and it's expensive....the 320 IMO has less to go wrong.
I know all Merc parts are expensive.....and despite a employee discount they are still a lot of money.
MR2 parts are a lot cheaper.

Im trying to think from a neutral perspective.
The MR2 turbo's were pretty expensive new and were only sold in the US and Japanese markets.

I'm going to look at a 230k and 320 and a MR2 turbo.
I'll see which makes me smile more.

It's funny.......the MR2 guys in the OC I'm in said the opposite......that the Merc will never put a smile on my face despite being a very nice car.:lol:

I like both......but the test drives / viewing will sort that out.

If I could afford an AMG like you it'd be a no brainer.

We do have a lovely SL63 in our hub building at work......just need the lotto numbers to come up.

check out the Jap imports ? (35k S class 600 limo for £6k currently for sale) if you can afford to run it its an absolute steal at that price.

I had an AE86 rwd Corolla and sold it and bought a 190 E. Totally different cars. Always regretted selling the twincam but never bought another one.

I have had a C230K and if it had had an lsd it would have been every bit as much fun as the Toyota.

The 230k engine is a great one and never gave me any bother. Economy was better than the Toyota too.

I think you have your mind made up with your user name. Oh and welcome to the forum.

Why not get a 230k clk and a Mk1 MR2 as a weekend car?? Alway intended to do something like that but just never got around to it.

If you get yourself a 320 convertible, you will be a very happy man. I has good power and take my word for this, MERC interior is a VERY VERY nice place to be in.

MR2 will be fast and good on handling but you wont get the smile on your face that you will when you look at your merc.

I had a VW GOLF GTI 16V MK2 before my 230 and I went for 230 because I thought 320 would be alot more to run and maintain but only now i wish that i had gone for 320 instead. They both give similiar MPG but 320 has that extra power from V6 when you need it. I must admit the handling isnt 230/320's Forte' but they will still make you smile for the effortless driving.

Oh and one other thing.....I have had the car for almost a year and half.... I havent hadnt had any major repair bills. This is with me doing a lil bit of handy work myself and tougher jobs carried out by an Indie to keep the costs down.

Between 230K & 320 I would go for the 320 every time, whilst the 230K has similar power to the 320 it was brought in IMO to meet tax rules in certain countries and was cheaper as a company car in the UK and not for any economy or other reason. The 320 is the better engine and doesn't have the supercharger issues that some 230K's suffer from.

I can't find the thread which has the Vin Link on that Russian website.

I'm trying to see if I type in the chassis number I have if it will tell me whether the car is a Tip-Auto or just Auto.

Any help??
