Just Wondering Whats Required With regards parts ,fluids on a b service im thinking of taking it to the garage that did the M.O.T hes not a merc specialist or anything just a family owned buisness he said it would cost about 150 plus the parts which i said id get so far ive got a list but am not sure what else would be changed if i took it to merc id do the service myself but im thinking ahead hopefully he would be more willing to carry out repairs if its a regular car he knows

brake pads front ( non merc ones at the min and they sqeal like a pig )
brake fluid (flashed up on the dash with service 1500miles so im guessing it needs changing got no leaks and its at correct level )

Does he have a star diagnostic machine?
There are lots of Mercedes specific things and if someone isn't familiar then they can be caught out easily. There is quite a bit on your engine on this forum relating to issues with the supercharger. Worth a look for those threads and ensuring that you don't have the same issues.

Assuming that yours is a W208 like mine , then as follows:
spark plugs, Euro exactly the same half the price... need changing every 70k miles
oil filter Euro requires a special tool as its the cartridge type
Engine Air Filter and cabin air filter
Engine oil I recommend Shell Helix Ultra 5W /40 Fully Synthetic reasonable price from any Shell Garage
MTE Pads from Euro are OEM, squealing brakes need a smear of copper slip on the backing plate
Brake fluid change if not already done
same for coolant
autobox filter/fluid change genuine Merc Fluid is supposedly a synthetic product so use that (exoensive @ 70 squid touch) + sump joint well worth the effort will reduce tickover speed and creep
replace the black triangular filter on top of the cam cover
chk battery voltage and vaseline the terminalsin the boot+ spare wheel.

Get some one thats familiar with the vehicle to do the autobox oil needs to be topped up at running temp see threads on this forum. Oh need to pump out torque converter by removing one of the pipes to the radiator.
Thats all I can think of !
hope its of some use:wink:

A couple of small jobs you could well do yourself which could save a lot of grief.

Grease the wiper drive yoke, remove wiper arm using allen key and then just hook fingers under edge of large cover and pull off. DO PROTECT WINDSCREEN WHEN REMOVING WIPER ARM. It is spring loaded and will snap back onto windscreen. A mechanic not familiar with Mercs will probably fall into this trap and cost you a new windscreen (or ins excess)

I always exercise the mechanical key in door and boot locks once a year. To free them up and remind myself which way to turn them, it is not obvious and difficult to apply much leverage. It will be dark and raining if you ever need to use it in earnest, also to deal with a completely flat battery needs access to boot or under bonnet and car won't unlock with remote!!!

I have used 0 - 40W Mobil 1 for the last 170,000 miles and no problems so far :)

The other thing I swear by is a can of fuel injector cleaner in a fuel tank of fuel every 6000 miles. I use Wynns and notice a definite improvement in engine smoothness and response every time, it also stopped the erratic behaviour of the fuel tank level senders which played up early in the car's life. The senders are still the originals and never play up now.

Rob,

I just noticed the mileage on your car, it makes you a likely candidate for the dreaded "Oil In Air Intake" problem which affects the MAF sensor. If you get the slightest sign of a misfire, clean the sensor immediately with Isopropyl Alcohol and you might avoid having to replace it. Then check the air intake pipework for oil. Both are easy jobs.

For more info see the thread "Oil in air intake" started by Balal and also the threads in the DIY section about cleaning the MAF sensor and also one about sorting the oil problem out.
