Hi all

My 1989 230te odometer failed at 98000 and was replaced with a brand new one or so its says in the service log.
I brought it with 29000 odd showing and it now has 43200 which with the old milage adds up to 141200 odd.
My question is can i have it recalibrated to show the true mileage?? if so how and where??

Thanks for your time all

If you do that, then the entry in your service log will be incorrect.

Being mechanical, you'd need to remove it (the whole instrument gauge panel) and send it to a specialist or have a go yourself (this -specialist included- may also leave signs of tampering, which may give you headaches later on).

With the newer electronic types, the mileage can be adjusted thru the diagnostics plug with the correct kit (laptop and software) and most dealers could probably do it.

But I would say it's not worth the trouble, especially as at this mileage the car's worth is based more on condition and maintenance records than actual miles.
