I've got a C250 Sport as a loan car at the moment
(Memory control unit being replaced under Service plus)

Quite impressed with this engine.

Of course I'm used to driving a 320 petrol but this is just as fast, if not as smooth.

Display is saying after 5,000 miles it's averaged 47.2 mpg

May all have been motorway driving of course but stil not bad.

The C class is better than I remember it on the test drive but the suspension is jiggly just like my old Audi A6

Extremely tidy fuel economy for a diesel with such low mileage Peter.

Our W 203 220 CDI did not break 40 mpg until around 10,000 miles. At 15,000 it is now giving >40 on local running and 48 on the motorway. I expect it to improve more yet.

If that C250 makes the same improvements as it beds in it should be good for mid 50s mpg easily.

AS I said, I don't know how it's been driven.
It's not one of the usual loan cars (B class) but is used by the sales force, so it may have been flogged.

Just since the remap Colin, or before that too?
What remap did you go for to acheive this ?
Is there a thread already dedicated to your remap choice ? (saves hijacking this thread)
;)

Always makes me laugh how the Merc owners are impressed by mpg figures of over 40 ;) VW's get 50+ without trying..... still I cant wait to trade in the VW for a Merc. Lets just hope I don't miss those mpg's (hopefully the Merc will be taking my mind off the fuel economy ;) )

But not tankful to tankful (according to your postings so far). Only on the computer read-out which remapping usually affects seriously. Or have you some new info for us?

Try the Elegance. Much better more Mercedes type ride. Standard wheels help too, of course.

I tried the elegance last year when I test drove the new C.
I found it sloppy and the seats not very good.

The CLK has a much better suspension set up. The 209 is too sloppy in the elegance and too jiggly in the sport.

However, this post was about the 250 engine which, bearing in mind the power, seems to give good mpg.

That is very helpful Peter. The mix of optional extras on the various trim levels, the ride quality and the tyre sizes (affects CO2 rating too) are all a matter of personal choice.

I think the one option we would all choose is more mpg, and this car seems to do that handsomely (plus lots of puff).

Our VW Diesel only gets 25mpg so it depends what you are comparing there isn't many direct comparisons between VW & Mercedes. A Passat against a C Class, although it would have to be a larger engined Passat against one of the smaller C's or a Viano against a Caravelle. I was talking to a Viano owner on the weekend his 3.0ltr Diesel is also doing 25mpg so a fair comparison against our Caravelle.
