250 TD Estate Turbo Hiss

Can anybody offer some basic guidance.

Coming home from Dolgelleau into Bala, overtook a slower driver and just as I got alongside, I heard this pop and a long hiss as if something had burst and was being let down. I'm danm sure it's somwhere the turbo wastegate as no black smike appeared. Still drove OK, apart from when I pressed the go pedal whereon there was a rising hiss as revs built up and power was way down. Nursed the car home but, once on the drive and with no load on the engine, there's only a feint whistle from around the turbo. Any ideas?

Forgot to add, 250TD.... damn comfy car!

sounds like a turbo boost pipe has split. the engine will be down a little on power and unless repaired the situation will get worse and you will lose most of the power. check the large rubberised pipes arount the turbo and the intercooler etc

Thanks, Pete, I'll get out and under when it stops raining (that means next April, then ) and check it out to see what's decided to part company.

a common one on the 250 is the corrugated pipe, clearly visible under the bonnet going to the intercooler.
