270 TD or 320 petrol engine tuning

Hi chaps,

long and short, I'm considering chopping my X Trail in against an ML W163 of some description. This will be used as my towing car for camping holidays as well as day to day for SWMBO and kiddywinkle.

Looking on AT etc I can see a few in my price range- I don't want to go above £3k as I'm now saving like mad for a hoose- but just curious as to what can actually be gotten out of the growly lump of metalat the front end.

270s I have seen have injector seal issues... not heard much bad about the 320 petrol (I6 I presume?).

I'd prefer a diesel but I'm not wedded to the idea- swirl flaps/ actuators etc sound all a bit finicky- so please to tell me your sterling tales of engine tuning and remapping for the two in my price range!

the 320 is a V6 and will give you far less trouble than the 270 diesel.. but then it will drink far more fuel...

Thanks Rob. What is the 320 petrol V6 capable of output wise when tinkered with, any ideas?

loved my 270 diesel, 225bhp after a map and decat, and at 162k when I sold it the engine was the best part of the car :)

Thanks Rob. What is the 320 petrol V6 capable of output wise when tinkered with, any ideas?

Tinkering won't give a lot more from the 320 as its normally aspirated so you can't just up the boost like a diesel/petrol turbo engine.
UYou may get 10% extra if you're lucky but it will probably be delivered in a slightly more aggressive way.
