Hi All

My key fob seems to have stopped working for some reason, I have replaced the batteries and it seems to work intermittently as though the batteries are low. It will open the doors after some messing around but then you put the key in the ignition and it doesn't release the steering lock straight away, you seem to have to wiggle it around or just get lucky then it kicks in.

I've checked the batteries and they are fine so I am guessing its a loose connection somewhere, does anyone have any ideas where? Are there any common weak parts to the circuitry? Its the 3-button triangular shaped remote with lock, unlock and boot release buttons.

Also with the original (not working) remote you had to press unlock twice to unlock both doors, with the spare I am using at the moment you press once and both doors unlock. Does anyone know why this is? Is it by design that the spare works differently or is there a problem with my spare key?

I have seen the maintenance guide for the key fob but mine is a different fob to the one being worked on. Any help is much appreciated, thanks in advance.

I have a 2005 CLK, you can program both doors to open with one press, or one press to open drivers door and second press to open passenger door.

You need to check your manual & set it to whatever you prefer. (I think each key fob has to done seperately)

My remote was acting the same way, but new batteries cured it. Double check your new batteries are OK before you go any further. It wont be the first time new batteries have been lying on a shelf for a few years and are no better than the ones you have replaced.

Thanks for the advice, I'll check the manual to try and program the fobs to be the same.

With the batteries, I took them from the spare fob and tried them in the original fob and they worked intermittently as explained in my original post. I immediately took them out and put them back in the spare fob and they worked perfectly every time. I tried this a few times and the result was the same each time. I wish it was just the batteries but I really don't think it is.
