So, here we have my 3 year old B200 AMG bought in January from a Mercedes dealer with a years guarantee. Just back from France and I reckon A/C is about 50% below par. Obviously this needs checking and I think this should be done under guarantee. If they agree, all well and good - but if dealers want to charge I'm inclined to go straight back to my trusted indie and give him the money. Do you agree?

(BTW car did over 50 mpg on nearly 1000 miles of autoroutes.)

An old B-Class.
Why would they not do it under guarantee? You are 5 months into ownership.

Just before I left for France I told my salesman of the potential problem and he suggested contact servicing on return - when I asked about guarantee he said he wasn't sure if it was covered (I indeed expressed surprise). But will report back when I contact service tomorrow.

Call Dealer, say "AC does not work (well) "

Therefore covered. kick up fuss. Problem solved.

Booked investigation with franchise after long intro. rigmarole with receptionist about phone numbers, email and number-plate details etc., seems 15th June at 11.00 was just about first available pre-arranged slot. When I mentioned "it's under guarantee" along came hesitant reply on lines of 'depends what we find.' - maybe this is what all receptionists are programmed to say.
But Alex is of course right - it should undoubtedly be fixed under guarantee, and a storm will be raised if it's not. Watch this space.
I do wish those days of customer care was still with us, but it just seems a distant memory now.

as far as I'm aware, EVERTHING is covered for the 1st 12 months if bought from Mercedes dealer. When I had an oil leak on my ML within weeks of buying it from MB, I just booked it in for them to sort, there was never any suggestion that I might have to pay, like wise a key fob that would only remote open but not shut
