HELP, please ..
*
my 300 SE has stood ( outside ) from early November until mid Feb !
*
first attempt to start with booster, failed !
*
3 weeks later (due to work) replaced plugs ! still no joy.
*
2 weeks after that (today)
added 10 litres of fuel
allowed booster time to trickle charge battery (15 mins)
turned key.........
NOTHING ~##~ !
*
it is turning over but not firing !
*
has anyone any ideas that might resolve this problem ?
please !

Check to see if fuel is getting through - if not, could be immobolisor fault.

Check to see if you're getting a spark off your leads - if not, could be leads/coil pack at fault.

Could also be wiring/ECU fault. But could "also" be that maybe the booster isn't strong enough to start it?

Tell you what, run to halfords and pickup some EASY START aka START THE BASTARD... spray it to the intake as you try starting the vehicle, 9/10 times it does wonders for vehicles parked up for a long time :D

Stand by the back wheel and get some one to turn on ignition, listen for the fuel pump running for a few seconds.

Check for a spark at the plugs.

It could be moisture has got into the dizzy cap causing a weak spark, take it off and check clean, dry it out.

The overvoltage protection relay may have blown due to the jumping of the battery.

thanks for speedy response to both of you PS & E T,
i did hear that easy start was bad for the engine ..
or is a small whiff harmless to it ?
*
fuel pump working !
not checked for spark yet. have to be next week !
also will check for damp in dizzy cap ect;
*
where would the 'over voltage relay' be ?
i do not have a service manual.

Not heard of easy start being of any harm, I wouldn't flood the intake with it though.. just like two squirts, attempt to turn over then a few more squirts as it's turning over - that should do it.

Yeah if fuel pump working and fuel getting to the plugs then definitely check for spark :)

Not sure where the over voltage relay is on your vehicle. Normally a fuse/relay box is by the inner wings.

BUT.
on opening hood in semi dark, have spotted oil by air pipe leading to air filter ....
will check air filter to-morrow....
if oiled up, what is the likely cause ?

Too Early to give up.

The distributor cap may just need a clean.
Must check for spark. Buy a spark plug lead tester, very cheap

Your Mercedes
2002 SL500, 216 CL500, all fully loaded
Take out the cold start valve and hold it over a bowl.
bridge terminal 7 and 8 of the connector of the fuel pump relay and switch on, the spray angle should be 45º If fuel coming out OK, then put the cold start injector back and see if it starts with the fuel pum relay bridged

good old girl.....

well seems i was going down the wrong road all the time..............
it seems that the all in one booster,
..[ it inflates tyres as well as jumping the battery ]
..... may have not been up to the job !
~
i have a small Renault van, and i used this to jump the "still in situ" battery.
took a couple of minutes but eventually she fired up.
~
i let her get up to temperature and moved her around the parking area.
no problems..
she is now with my local garage for MOT,
then we will be using her through the summer............
