300 te 4 matic

hi guys. just bought my second merc and the 4matic isn't working, there is enough oil in the resevoir and no defect light comes on it just appears to be dead, any ideas as to where or even whether there is a 4 matic fuse? Simon

You do not state how you are testing the 4 matic, but have you checked the "test" lever on the LHS of the engine bay as you look into it? If it is in the "test" position, the system is deactivated.

Also, when you turn on the ignotion, what lights do you get on the dash?

problem solved thanks motard man I took the 4 matic ECU out of my 88 300 TD turbo 4 matic and put it in my new 300 TE and hey presto all working, price for a new one? mercedes Stratford quotes me £645 if they had one, but nothing is showing in this country!

next is the air cond, going to get my father to test it tomorrow, he does tractors and a few Cars
