1984 230E
I posted a month or so ago asking a question about an upcoming trip around France in a 1984 (W123) 230E. Thought people may like to know that i got back a few days ago having covered around 3000 miles (big country France!!) and the ONLY issue I had with the car was a fuse going for the offside front/nearside rear electric windows!!! - a 2 min job to sort.

They certainly don't build them like that anymore, the ride quality was excellent (especially on the Autoroutes). Fuel consumption not great (it is a big car!!) - saw a number of much newer cars broken down at the side of the road awaiting recovery

Nice isnt it ?---buy a new car do the same and compare the resale value too---the 123 is still worth what it was before you set out.!!!!

In the early 80s I ran a couple of 123 series a 230E for a short while then a 280E for four years .What beautifully built solid cars they were too. They certainly don’t make them like that anymore but the memory of that old fashioned quality is enough to aspire you to the margue. The 280E was an effortless high speed cruiser ,a bit heavy on petrol but it was much cheaper in them days!

I took my W123 to Denmark & back last year, and Skye this year. Absolutely fault free on both occasions. As you say, a little heavy on juice, but 28mpg isn't horrendous, and certainly better than the 23mpg I used to get out of the 280CE that preceeded it!
